Montauk is known as a world-class sport fisherman's paradise.  Inshore you can go for the grab bag of flounder, fluke, striped bass, bluefish, sea bass and porgies.  Head offshore and you are in deep water where sharks, tuna, codfish, ling, marlin, dolphin and black fish are caught.

After the summer months have passed the fishing frenzy begins.  In September, October and into November is the striped bass and blue fish  southern migration past Montauk Point from their northern summer feeding grounds as far away as the Grand Banks off Newfoundland and the Labrador Sea to winter out in the Carolinas. Fishermen from Maine and all over the world come to Montauk to  witness the best fishing the sports fishing world has to offer.

Charter fishing boats provide all equipment; filet all fish, and licenses are not required. Charter fees are $475 to $500 per half day for up to six people.  Cottage owner and friends are avid fishermen and upon request will send some current published information on fishing in Montauk - which seems to be getting better every year.  The best fishing grounds are less than a mile from shore for those who want a great half or full day of fun sport fishing only a couple of hours away from New York City or Connecticut.

Surf cast fishing from shore is very big in Montauk as the small bait fish, also going south to winter out, are chased ashore in large numbers by the striped bass and bluefish.  This is known as a feeding frenzy or blitz.  There are now twenty-five surf cast fishing clubs on Long Island and this type of fishing is extremely popular for men and women.
